Muscle & Peripheral Nerve Pathology
19-21 November 2003 Vienna, Austria

The fourth course on Muscle & Nerve Pathology will be held from November 19-21 in Vienna, Austria. The same course was held earlier this year in Amsterdam. The course will be in English, and consist of lectures with an emphasis on teaching. Practical (microscope-based) sessions are part of the course. The registration fee, including catering but excluding travel expenses, hotel costs and meals, is €800.

This three-days course and workshop will provide practising (neuro)pathologists, clinicians and researchers with up-to-date reviews of the classification and the diagnostic problems in muscle and peripheral nerve pathology. The course consists of alternate lectures and slide sessions.

Topics include:

  • general muscle pathology
  • histochemistry
  • immunohistochemistry
  • enzyme histochemistry
  • muscular dystrophies
  • mitochondrial myopathies
  • congenital myopathies
  • inflammatory myopathies
  • toxic and metabolic neuropathies
  • demyelinating neuropathies
  • hereditary neuropathies
  • inflammatory neuropathies.

Participants will receive a richly illustrated work manual of the histopathology of the most common muscular disorders. The text book Structural and Molecular Basis of Skeletal Muscle Diseases edited by George Karpati and the Atlas of Peripheral Nerve Pathology by Rosalind King are also provided.

Grants

A limited number of grants of € 600 is available for young trainees in neuropathology. Please see the application form (MS Word or PDF) for details.
